reading LIst - Parenting

Here is a quick list of my top recommended parenting books to support a deeper understanding of how behaviour, emotion, connection and relationship show up in families. I will link purchasing options but most should be available through your local library, cost-free.

Good Inside by Dr. Becky Kennedy

Dr. Becky’s approach looks beyond challenging behaviour and big emotions and helps you see your child as truly good inside. It offers tangible tools, scripts and example scenarios that apply to every family. She also helps parents understand their most effective role, leading to clear boundaries, secure attachment and deeper connection.

The Whole-Brain Child: 12 Revolutionary Strategies to Nurture Your Child's Developing Mind BY Daniel J. SiegEl and Tina Payne Bryson

The Whole Brain Child leans on neuroscience, brain development and secure attachment to offer healthy emotional and intellectual development so that your children can lead balanced, meaningful, and connected lives.

Hunt, Gather, Parent: What Ancient Cultures Can Teach Us About the Lost Art of Raising Happy, Helpful Little Humans by Michaeleen Doucleff

A beautiful reminder that children are born wanting to feel like they belong, can contribute, and find their role in their families. This book offers a perspective that is simple and easily applicable; children don’t need to stay busy and be entertained. Rather, they have the skills and desire within to be responsible and collaborative, and as parents, we can create moments for these skills to show up and develop and feel important.

I FEEL THAT WAY TOO: By Melissa MElia Dunn and Kailea Switzer

A children’s book designed for children ages 0-7 that helps readers label their emotions and understand that it is okay to feel the full range of the human experience. We kept this book simple, to allow parents and children to have conversations on every page. We encourage readers to tell stories of times they felt each emotion and get curious about when your child may have as well. This book includes tangible takeaways for parents, teachers and caregivers of all kinds that help build emotional literacy and regulation skills as well as moments of meaningful connection.
